I’m not really a black metal person, in all honestly. If you notice, my blog lends itself more towards an old-school death metal bias, but I do happen to enjoy black metal - I just never got myself into it as much as the former. So I do have respect for Vikernes’s musical talents and his influence on the genre.

Conversely, anything about his ideology or the implications of his shockingly vile discourse is a load of shit. We know he’s a horrible person with an egregious and stupendously deficient moral code. Any of his twelve year-old “br00tal” fanboys who idolize him like an idiot are just that: fucking idiots. They should probably grow up, lest we get ourselves stuck with an impenetrable wall of rebellious children who are too “kvlt” and “trve” to recognize the repercussions of the musician they claim to be inspirational.

Really, it’s a shameful chapter in metal history. I understand the enigma of the situation and the character Vikernes has created around himself is enticing to certain people, but it does nothing to show condemnation of his actions and beliefs. This is why I don’t get the truckload of “oh HURR DURR EURONYMOUS IS DEAD” type of jokes - not because I find myself offended over the humour surrounding a murder - but instead because it’s become so incredibly redundant.

Ultimately we, as the metal community, find ourselves oddly obsessed with the cemented representation of Varg Vikernes the murderer rather than Varg Vikernes the musician. I find that to be the stupid thing.

That would be the logo for his own black metal project… of which he is the sole member.
